There are human systems people such as Gandhi , Einstein, and Von Neumann that I would prefer no 5th grade teacher was employed without being aware of their importance to human sustainability. The urgency of this requirement translates into a basic literacy /common sense level of humanity that the 2020s needs. Whilst this is only a preference when it comes to national politicians (or the world's most powerful coders) the evidence is in : we are heading to extinction if such powerful people do not know the truths which were available at Von Neumann's death in 1957, appear to have been understood by President Kennedy but not valued wholly or truly by any US OR EU president since 1963.

Happy Safe 2022 to every mom, dad, child on mother earth, chris.macrae@yahoo.co.uk -always here to discuss how to change education - a genre we have called 2025report.com since 1984 when we applied the first 140 years of notes from The Economist to the survey of whether an opposite alternative to Orwell's Big Brother end game would be possible for the millennial generation

Having been thrown out of the usa where about 4% of humans lived, the british empire went on to impact half of human beings directly ruling via colonizing a quarter and having caused another quarter of humans: the chinese (1860 opium war) to close down from world trade in preference to accepting opium as a currency- thus the question where & how did peoples successfully free their lives and livelihoods from the 1% of Brits or London's capitalist system probably matters to the sustainability of all of us

Look around at the great expectations when the UN and multilateral orgs were birthed at the end of world war 2, and it would seem the outstanding successes of freedom are a handful of Asian superports - hong kong singpapre more recently Emirates such as qatar and Dubai

IF 2022 IS TO BE THE YEAR WE TURN SUSTAINABILITY'S CORNER AND VALUE ALL OUR CHILDREN THEN WHY NOT LEARN FROM

Qatar's first lady Sheikha Moza (also top 15 un sdg advocate UN's first hub of 40 nations concerned with refugee education)
ideas : design womens university campus - attached to the nations world class conference centre; become the WISE summit epicentre of the nobels of education starting 10 years ago (& twinned with her WISH summits on health) with:
Fazle Abed whose education reach empowered 1 billion girls
and dec 2021 celebrating Wendy Kopp's collaboration of 60 nations graduates before they invest their lives in teaching

How would these 3 world champions of our next generation live up to 3 of the world's greatest exploers of machines and education
Charles Yidan made his billions as cofounder of China's larget tech company tencent; we first encountered his new life at Wise Beijing 2016; Charles Yidan Preize is designing the most exciting collaboration of who helps world class educators> This is a testimony to his illietrate grand mother who nonetheless nurtured Charles dad to be the first college student of the thriving space now known as Guandong
Von Neumann (transparecy note dad was his biographer) more than any one single gravity, alumni of neumann have been multiplying 100 times more tech every decade since 1955 (later 1965 known as moores law, and branded as silicon valley from 1972)
Adam Smith who celebrated 2 scoops out of Glasgow in mid 1700s- being the last writer on markets of teh age before machines and the first writer after. It is relevant to know that Smith was driuven to clarify what systems interact around mother earth- before he classified markets as such a system he had begun with natural resources and health as 2 systems he saw as natura; he conceieved education and cultyres as man made systems; in this context he defined transparency of markets as a fifth expoential opportunity and threat.
It is simply not possible to deeply learbn about the english speaking world without digesting Smith's observations- for example he was clear of a cancer emmbedded in oxford as lead in higher education - its not designed to value youty rarther for the conveneinces of top professosrts and london vested interest bureaucrats

To understand all 6 of the gamesplayes possible imacts on 2020s as youth's last chnace of being first Sustainability Generation - help us file more learnings from these 6 educatirs and hi tech influencers as the 2020s is also when Industrial Revolution 4 takes over from IR3,2, 1 in the holonic sense that human and articifial intel futures are now inseparable and about to determine whether we make a last exit from extinction

WRJ COLLAB survey - can 7.5 billion brains still prevent extinction? who's engineers who can?

My scottish friends favorite subject -what good "human advancement" apps can engineers make next? - we have had longer (from 1758) to debate this thanks to first engineer James Watt and first logical searcher of value exchanges adam smith -others in scot's top 5 bell (telephone), Wilson (founded Economist to assist Queen Victoria explore Commonwealth of humanity), Fazle Abed who journeyed from East Pakistan as a teen to graduate in about 200th class of Adam Smith moral sentiments; became shell oil's leading young Asian engineer in 1960s then dedicated rest of his life 50 years to empowering a billion women to network ending extreme poverty

-the picture shows the partnerships that a billion women thanked Abed (all his partners, students, education co-workers and village business entrepreneurs) most for co-creating and in the case of 6 X-collaborations Abed recommended sustainability generation complete in 2020s. LKY fathered the new nation of Singapore. He was driven by one question- how to create jobs, jobs, jobs. He demanded job creation from economic advisers, from fellow public servants and educators, and of the service culture that propels singapore forward in a region where lifelong learning is demanded by everyone

In Entrepreneurial Revolution view mediated at The Economist (1843 to world wie web 1989)  democracy as a goal isn't all its made up to be except where public servants strive as relentlessly as LKY to develop jobs jobs jobs

Wanted Graduate Collabs to Sustain life with Glasgow U's Engineering Fans of Humanity Abed, Watt, Smith

.
From EconomistDiary - soon after dad (Norman Macrae) died in 2010, Japan Ambassador to Bangladesh kindly hosted 2 remembrance parties  (brainstorming dinners) chaired by Sir Fazle Abed. Themes chosen by Fazle Abed : uniting 21st C Girls Universities; how tech wizardry could empower women to build the most popular cashless banking

some questions came up, including:
Q) You say brac's happiest achievement will be to have sustained a network of 100000+ village trainers in addition to microfranchising 100000 jobs for village mothers as teachers in brac schools in Bangladesh; another 50000 trained as last mile health servants ... so why do the world's philanthropists and aid industry often call Dhaka the open university of microcredit?

A) Abed microcredit was a term the Clintons & Yunus branded ahead of the new millennium -it got more storytelling attention and conference sponsors than eg microeducationsummit - if you look at its 13 years so far its about PR advocacy, its not ever asked us to share with teachers of the world  - thats partly why i started brac university in 2001 and why I hope you see future of girls university partnerships (designed so that millennials are the first sustainability generation) might be what your father most wanted to brainstorm if he had been here to discuss probably the penultimate decade of 100 times more tech's evolutionary consequences

q) Are the millennium goals sufficient for sustainability generation? No. I think its now well known that the world needs much deeper goals- i hear the UN will launch SDGs in 2015. Take education as a practice case. Today's goal is : every child has right to primary school. That's the only guide for 21st c education!
Dont get me wrong- commonwealth aid has been enormously kind in helping us build primary schools but I would have liked to spend some time on education (support for teacher innovation) needed before age 7 or after 11/ Through the university we have started to validate 2 missing education approaches which we hop 50 million girl =graduates will also turn into good leadership/community rising jobs  (palyschools, ultra poor graduation)- my aim while I am alive is to find optimal partners and coach economists to value demanding replication of these solutions in at least 50 poorest countries. That's what partners of girl universities can platform; this is become most popular conversation topic with Asian Ambassadors, and I aim to make it so for the rest of my life.

Q so could we arrange our interviews with you into some sort of MOOC-
A) Yes massive Open Online matter but only if C is for Cooperation
==== for more Q&A rsvp chris.macrae@yahoo.co.uk especially if you can help us improve www.abedmooc.com

Q Although my father believed journalists had no right to express pessimism, he foresaw expoenetial risks- eg GNP counting ever less of what 21st C value spending time exchanging (care health love teaching ...) do you have an acronym for what empowering women to be as productive as men revolves round-?

A) uh SHE-LFF is ok standing for value multiplying last mile basics: Safety Health Education Leadership-Trust Feed Finance for what we did for 25 years of women building communities with no electricity; but what women's giant leaps forward who entrepreneurially celebrate 2020s webs will want boys and girls to identify around digitally as well as naturally diverse - just celebrate doing it. DC2.0 for digital cooperation could be helpful.

ABEDMOOC.com in search of billion family's happiest 30 collaborations for 2020-30
chris.macrae@yahoo.co.uk writes Dec 2021: 14 year ago friends of dad The Economist's Norman Macrae first invited us to come to Dhaka and womens villages to learn about human development out of Bangladesh - after 15 visits we suggest that any student or action networker of sustainability needs to join in with Sir Fazle Abed's 50 years of celebrating billion poorest women as being the deepest gravitational force for sustainability as a human intelligence - cases journalised with dozen of graduate journalists can be viewed at eg abedmooc.com abedplay.com  alibrac.com fazleabed.com abeduni.com economistwomen.com -as we have argued for 60 years mainly in The Economist and at 2025report.com von neumann gift of 100 times more tech per decade from 1955 needed grounding through every community in opposite systems to top down corporate and gov - without collaborations of 1billiongirls.com data applied by artificial intel will not learn deep enough to resolve sustainability crises - covid, climate , big capitalism's devaluation of next generations...

through 15 years of travels to Bangladesh:  thanks to conversations with fazle abed we went from harvard's oral history to cataloguing every sort of sdg COLLAB networks by and for the poorest village women instead of by and for the richest white men who first exploited carbon machines - our alternative store of case studies is at www.abedmooc.com - some linkedin tour guides start at www.economistpoor.com

ABED NUMBER 1 LAUREATE OF THE ECONOMIST's ENTREPRENEURIAL REVOLUTION
From last days as a teenager navigating planes allied bomber command world war out of modern day myanmar, my father, Norman Macrae of The Economist, reported entrepreneurs concerned with uniting east and west (south and north) (future & history) in designing world good enough to be born into anywhere;
we'd heard a rumor that a billion poorest asian village women all linkedin same partners solutions to end poverty: dad hosted his last public birthday party royal auto club 2008 to clarify that rumor; 13 years later thanks to 20 young Asian journalists and Abed's family/friends, we have come up with abedmooc.com ebrac.com abeduni.com alibrac.com - we hope you find the greatest entrepreneurial revolutions and tell us what we haven't yet linked in - chris.macrae@yahoo.co.uk- thanks Abed Bhai- Glasgow University's top 3 fans of engineers can sustain the world: Abed; Watt;Smith

it took my 7th tour of boston colleges to visit Tufts

-mit (kendall statIon)  offers my american favorite square mile walking tour into the future;
harvard, i have some times had to visit to understand the terrible mathematical mess when short-term tangible accounting rules business leaders minds but tufts?

conversely tufts is  about 20 minutes walk from the metro, and i had chosen one of those days when snow had just fallen- but it turns out that if you want culturally grounded diplomats, or students with the confidence to engage communities  as actively as professors,  or as honest tv journalists as 21st c usa is capable of developing

-and then there are extraordinary alumni like reeta roy -now admittedly i have come across her work from quite a narrow lens; i have been searching and searching for the top 10 all time partners of my number 1 hero the late great sir fazle abed- and while billionnaires like gates and soros are in the top 10 as are fellow last mile health servants like jim kim, roy arguably manages more bang for the buck in coalition projects with brac than others in the top 10- let's see if you agree  - tufts talloires is also a partners of soros osun and the legacy of fazle abed to unite 50 university's sdg alumni

her coalition is linking mastercard  foundation and canadian networks to sir fazle abed brac solution for girls livelihoods - and has become the lead cases benchmarking  adolescent girls jobs hubs out of uganda and africa...

remembering A Giant

Reeta Roy
21 December 2019

When I met Sir Fazle Abed more than a decade ago, I sensed I was in the presence of a giant.  He is the founder of BRAC, one of the world’s largest non-governmental organizations, which has touched the lives of 125 million people.

Abed Bhai, as I addressed him, presented that unique and rare combination of qualities possessed by great leaders. Vision. Wisdom. Boldness. Grit. Empathy.  Humility.  He has been a lion of courage throughout his life — from the time he returned to Bangladesh in 1971 to rebuild the country after independence until the moment he faced a terminal illness.

In 2008, he invited me to visit BRAC.  My trip to Bangladesh was more than a first-hand  education about how an organization changes the lives of millions of people and contributes to the economy of a country.  It was also a journey to reconnect with my heritage.  Abed Bhai had arranged for me to visit Lahunda, the village of my paternal great grandparents and grandparents where BRAC had a microfinance program.  Listening to the village women speak with such dignity about their lives left a deep impression on me.

Learning from BRAC and from rural communities in Uganda over the years influenced my views about how the Mastercard Foundation could create positive change in people’s lives.  Working with Abed Bhai was akin to taking a master class on how to scale efforts to serve millions of people, yet keep in mind the dignity of each human being. One of his lessons was about imagining possibilities. For example, where some people may look past an empty field lying fallow by the road, he would see fertile land producing multiple harvests to feed hundreds of thousands of people.

Abed Bhai never encountered a challenge he didn’t like.  He would observe, listen and size a situation, and envision how it could be improved.  Then, he would get to work.  Abed and BRAC were resolute about achieving and quantifying results. They are deeply disciplined when it comes to setting targets and tracking progress.

His enormous drive and determination to improve the human condition were also matched by his kindness, wit and humor. He loved to tell stories and to listen to people’s stories.  These personal traits endeared him to many.

Not surprisingly, Abed Bhai faced his illness with his characteristic wisdom, pragmatism, and courage.  Once again, he took charge about how he intended to live his life with the time he had.  The lessons that he imparted will continue on in BRAC and other leaders he influenced.  As I reflect on his life and influence on mine, I am grateful to have been in the presence of a giant.
